Should I fall behind
Copyright 2009
If you find yourself reflecting,
on things that could have been,
if your trusting people you have never seen.
If you wake up in the morning, to a happy slamming door,
if you lie there eyes tight shut waiting for more.
Then you step outside in into the rain,
into the morning it’s just the same
Please don’t run please don’t fall behind.
Feel the warm wind touch you kindly,
As she settles on your skin
reminding you of places you’ve never been
all I have is all I have here
all I do is what I do
Can the sweetest disposition pull you through
And if you’re feeling lost and lonely,
if the boats left you behind
Just remember the people who love you
Time after time.
No matter what you say
No matter how many words
Pull you away
No matter how many rhythms
Or words that strain to rhyme
Will you always be there
should I fall behind
Will the answers be forthcoming
Will the words ring loud and true
Will you hammer on my window,
As the rain here tends to do.
Will you leave things as you found them
As I stand here all alone
surrounded by the blackness,
of another moorland stone
And if you’re feeling lost and lonely.
If you’re feeling high and dry
Remember people, who love you,
Can still make you cry.
No matter what you say
No matter how many words
Pull you away
No matter how many rhythms
Or words that strain to rhyme
Will you always be there
should I fall behind
